POSITION SUMMARY
An aircraft Painter manages the aircraft and its sub-assemblies painting and sealing process. This includes surface preparation, masking, chemicals handling, paint and sealant application.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare surfaces to be painted or sealed as requested by the working instructions using abrasives, solvents, and brushes.
- Installs masking for stripes or other aircraft painting detail.
- Mixes stirs and thins paint or other coatings, using spatula or power mixing equipment.
- Perform spraying of primer, base and top coatings assuring compliance with technical and quality requirements
- Applies or installs logos, symbols, or designs on painted surfaces, according to blueprint specifications, using measuring instruments, stencils, and patterns.
- Ensures the use of appropriate technical references and tools in performing paint and sealing duties.
- Perform cleaning and maintenance of all currently used painting equipment.
- Sets up ladders and scaffolding according to regulations and aircraft requirement.
- Inspect, monitor, clean and assist in minor repairs in machines and equipment following the TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) methodology.
- All other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Education:
- High School or GED familiar
Experience:
- Seveb (7) or more years of experience in area of responsibility related automotive, marine or aviation painting.
- Required: strong knowledge in Prep and Paint process
- Preferred: knowledge in paint stripping process
General Paint Booth and Detail Painter Responsibilities:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Safety procedures for chemicals handling.
- Understand technical management and quality assurance procedures.
- Must be able to be respirator qualified.
- Must not have facial hair that would interfere with the fit of a full or half face respirator
- Strong knowledge of technical standards and how to access them
- Strong knowledge and ability to read and understand blueprints and paint diagrams
- Strong ability to work with less experienced and new technicians in order to effectively train them on the paint and/or detail processes.
- Strong knowledge of both paint booth and detail processes.
- Strong knowledge and ability to recognize and correct paint discrepancies such as runs, dirt, solvent pop, overspray, and other paint discrepancies outlined in Doc EMB 1205
Paint Booth Painter Responsibilities:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong knowledge of the preparation and painting of aircraft, support equipment, and allied components
- Strong knowledge of the layout process including the use of the laser layout computer to set up and project images on the surface of the aircraft.
- Strong ability to apply final base and clear coats to specifications outlined in EMB 1205 STANDARD AND CRITERIA FOR VISUAL INSPECTION OF FINAL PAINTING
- Strong ability to apply special effect colors, mica, metallic, pearl, and fades to specifications outlined in EMB 1205 STANDARD AND CRITERIA FOR VISUAL INSPECTION OF FINAL PAINTING
Detail Painter Responsibilities:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong knowledge of paint blending and clear coat blends and ability to apply knowledge to create a satisfactory outcome.
- Ability to perform paint detail tasks with the upmost quality
- Ability to apply external inscriptions
- Ability to apply protective polyurethane protective films
- Ability to perform blend repairs on solid, metallic, mica, and tri stage colors
NOTE: Strong Knowledge in an area is defined as the ability to perform a task or function without assistance or supervision
Working Conditions / Environment/ Special Requirements
- Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including, OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations.
- As required by the position, must have the ability to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 "Respirator Protection" regulations with no restrictions that would prevent the proper use and/or seal of the respirator.
- Ability to work flexible hours and different shifts if required
- Employees will be subject to the random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations
