About us: 

The Data Engineering group supports spacecraft programmes with their data management needs. This includes involvement in data & software solutions in the context of system level design, development, and verification for on-going European Space Agency (ESA) programmes such as Sample Fetch Rover, ExoMars Rover & Biomass and commercial telecommunication programmes such as OneSAT.

The team is not only integrated into the programmes, with visibility of the programme phases but has involvement in phases of critical software solutions used across programmes. Our team is a mixture of technical experts who are all passionate about finding technical solutions to support the space programmes. We are an ideal mix of people who can help you develop technically and personally in the role.


What you will be doing:

As a Data Engineering Intern you will gain experience across development, test and delivery of software solutions for data management within spacecraft development across a number of space programmes. The tasks will be varied and require you to use different skills (technical, project management, communication etc.) in order to complete them successfully.

You will initiate and support activities within the team gaining experience ‘end to end’; from analyzing use cases of spacecraft engineering domains, developing proto-type software solutions to final test and delivery.

Requirements:

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or related field;
  • Knowledge of Java programming (Java 11 preferred);
  • Knowledge of working with database technology (non-relational preferred e.g. MongoDB);
  • Knowledge of Github (willing to present their published github).


Desirable:

  • Intellij. Linux, Scripting (bash, Python);
  • Scrum/Agile, Front End Development (e.g. Angular, React);
  • Web API framework (e.g. Spring boot / Rest API);
  • Web/GUI development (UI/UX, HTML, CSS, Javascript/Typescript)oSQL, PL/SQL;
  • Subversion;
  • Microsoft Access database;
  • Jenkins.


In addition to demonstrating the following:

  • The ability to listen, understand and communicate information;
  • The desire to work in a technical team environment;
  • A strong interest in developing yourself;
  • Interest in finding creative solutions to complex problems;
  • Able to make decisions based on evidence;
  • The desire to work in an open and trusting environment.
