The Manager, Disability & Leaves role in the Global Health and Wellness (GHW) organization is a strategic business partner who develops, formulates and implements people/organizational strategy for all of Delta’s Disability and Leaves policies, processes and procedures integrated with the corporate strategic direction, Corporate Security, Corporate Legal, HR, and Risk Management. The role is responsible for ensuring the effective and consistent delivery of Disability and other Leave service delivery and a positive employee experience including coaching/counseling employees and leadership, sourcing and selection, performance management vendor programs, organizational effectiveness, compensation, leader and employee development and providing HR leadership.
This position will be based in the Atlanta General Office and report to the GM, Disability & Leaves.
  • Provide oversight of the disability and leave Third-Party Administrator (TPA) and vendor management
  • Maintain efforts in determining current claim management strategies for benefit trends, regulatory compliance and policy equity for all domestic employees.
  • Monitor disability and leave claims from the beginning to the end by ensuring that the appropriate actions plans are implemented, providing reserve approval, settlement authorization and oversight of litigation management.
  • Evaluate the disability and leave TPA and adherence to service instructions through conducting Claim Reviews and Audits. Communicate disability and leave claim statuses to the appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of trends in the field of Leaves administration and keep current on legislative and regulatory issues at the State level.
  • Responsible for developing an effective communications ecosystem, providing data-driven insights and solutions that create a positive experience for the employee.
  • Lead a team to achieve performance goals and ensure alignment with the mission and vision of the organization. Ensure the team is effective and producing quality operational/jurisdictional results by managing individual performance and determining training/coaching needs as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain partnership and service level agreements with GM, Supply Chain, and TPA to ensure processes and workflows are effective and service goals are being achieved.
  • Ensure compliance with company’s claims management best practices, performance standards, policies and procedures while focusing on the employee experience.
  • Focus on DEI and review demographics of physicians, attorneys, and vendors and strategize how the company can increase diversity and visibility on the Disability and Leaves Programs.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Risk Management, Human Resources Management, BSN, Vocational Rehabilitation, or closely related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the administration of disability and leave claims in a Risk Management Department or Insurance Broker that includes directing and monitoring the activities and performance of a disability and leave Third Party Administrator.
  • Working knowledge of FMLA, STD, LTD, and ADA. Experience and knowledge of disability and leave rules and regulations in multiple states on a jumbo account.
  • Quality orientation and attention to detail a must, high work ethic and commitment to excellence.   
  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure and respond quickly to high priority requests.  
  • Flexibility and creativity are required to coordinate issue resolution in a constantly changing environment. 
  • Proven organizational, planning and time management skills necessary.
  • Strong problem solving and strategic thinking skills required.
  • Should have strong analytic skills and be able to gather, manipulate, and interpret data and develop action plans based on the analyses.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data. 
  • Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles. 
  • Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States
What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • Experience in aviation is a plus.
