Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking a Manager of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) to join our BWI site team in Linthicum, Maryland. The selected applicant will report to the site EHS Manager and will be responsible for successfully managing a team of health and safety professionals in Industrial Hygiene and Safety programs.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
Develops, implements, and maintains Industrial Hygiene and Safety programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.
Manage Industrial Hygiene programs and EHS professionals performing tasks in the program including but not limited to: air monitoring, hearing conservation (noise survey and dosimetry), ventilation surveys, respiratory protection, field sampling, cryogenics, asphyxiant exposure analysis, indoor air quality, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazard communication, radioactive materials, and asbestos/lead abatement.
Manage Safety programs and EHS professionals performing tasks in the program including but not limited to: electrical safety, lockout-tagout, material handling (cranes, aerial lifts, and forklifts), contractor safety, confined space, fall protection, cryogenics, and robotics.
Manage incident investigations, hazardous materials management, and chemical tracking and inventory programs.
Manage Industrial Hygiene and Safety Program budgets and contractors.
Identify opportunities for process improvements in industrial hygiene and safety programs.
Ensure effective job hazard assessments and appropriate hazard control approaches.
Ensure effectiveness of internal compliance inspections for industrial hygiene and safety programs.
Ensure timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to internal stakeholders, electronic databases and regulatory agencies.
Ensures EHS plans and procedures for industrial hygiene and safety programs are up to date and effective.
Develops and performs in-person and online EHS trainings for employees and management focused on industrial hygiene programs.
Partners with management to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability in support of EHS programs.
Partners with engineers, scientists, and management to support the integration of EHS into the design of new or altered processes and operations and building construction projects.
Interfaces with regulatory representatives, senior management, the site EHS Committee, and the Emergency Response, and Crisis Management teams.
Reviews and interprets existing and proposed environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations to determine applicability and impact for site with a focus on industrial hygiene and safety.
Reviews new construction and renovation plans for EHS program applicability and requirements.
Develop compliance strategies for new and existing health and safety regulations and/or company policies.
Supports the site’s environmental, safety, and fire protection programs.
Basic Qualification:
Bachelor of Science degree in industrial hygiene, safety, engineering, environmental science, or a related field, and a minimum of nine (9) years of experience in EHS field with a focus in industrial hygiene and safety; or a Master’s degree in industrial hygiene, safety, engineering, environmental science, or a related field, and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in EHS field with a focus in industrial hygiene and safety.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in leadership role managing a team of EHS professionals in the field of EHS.
Extensive experience in conducting air monitoring, noise surveys and dosimetry, ventilation surveys, respiratory protection and fit testing, field sampling, cryogenics study, and incident investigations.
Extensive experience in conducting personal protective equipment assessments, and job hazard analysis.
Extensive experience in conducting in person training and developing online training for various industrial hygiene related topics to various types of audience.
Extensive experience with managing various industrial hygiene and safety programs based on the review and interpretation of regulations and standards.
Experience with managing/overseeing third party consultants/contractors.
Computer based skills specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point programs.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance.
(U.S. Citizenship required).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science (MS) degree in industrial hygiene, safety, engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization.
Strong management, coaching, and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to organize and multi-task various Industrial Hygiene and Safety programs effectively.
Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with subordinates and delegate responsibilities with productive outcome.
Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize, plan and execute in rapidly changing, fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality results.
Ability to analyze complex problems and to develop innovative solutions based on sound scientific principles.
Ability to provide technical solutions to complex problems based on sound safety principles.
Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvements and to develop and implement more efficient and enhanced programs
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Experience with supporting EHS programs for manufacturing operations.
Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and Tableau.
Experience in interacting with a union labor workforce.
Salary Range: $119,800 - $179,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
