Job Description:
Core Responsibilities:
- Manage all health, safety and environmental programs for the division to assure compliance with Barnes standards and all applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations. At least 50 of time is spent on the shop floor working directly with employees, supervisors, engineers assessing and mitigating risks, coordinating HSE activities and driving new HSE initiatives.
- Act as facilities supervisor, overseeing and monitoring all existing building systems including HVAC, back-up power generators, UPS, electrical, critical equipment monitoring, security (access controls and camera surveillance), fire protection systems, and general building maintenance.
- Directly supervises maintenance team lead, maintenance technicians and maintenance helpers, including but not limited to performance management, scheduling of personnel and coordination of work assignments and instructions to mitigate/eliminate interruptions to business flow.
- Conduct risk assessments including job safety analyses (JSAs), machine guarding and confined space assessments, annual program assessments required by regulation, PPE assessments, etc.
- Partner with employees, supervisors and managers to improve hazard recognition skills and foster a proactive safety culture.
- Establish procedures and train affected employees to ensure compliance with site permits; prepare and submit all environmental compliance reports, plans and documents according to established deadlines (e.g., NPDES/SPDES, NESHAPS, Tier II, Form R, P2 Plans, Biennial Reports, SWPPP, SPCC, etc.).
- Analyze the sites carbon footprint, water usage and waste streams; identify and implement projects to reduce them and achieve the companys 2025 targets.
- Investigate workplace incidents to determine root cause and assist in identifying and implementing corrective actions. Manage elements of the Workers Compensation program, including initial investigation and reporting, claims management, and safe return to work.
- Actively participate on site Safety Committee and in Division activities including self-audits, continuous improvement events (Gemba, Kaizen, 3P, etc.), and awareness and recognition programs.
- Develop and conduct employee HSE training in collaboration with the BA HSE team.
- Drive the Management of Change process to ensure HSE impacts are identified and addressed proactively.
- Track and report all HSE data in accordance with Barnes standards and federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
- Oversees and maintains all Hazardous/Non-Hazardous waste training records for all personnel dealing with Hazardous Waste/Non-Hazardous waste. Maintains records according to requirements and include training information such as training description/type of training/amount of initial and continuous training as well as site and personnel identifiers such as facility name/location, employee name, job title & job description.
Qualifications: Candidates who meet minimum qualifications & experience will be prioritized for consideration.
- 4-6 years HSE management experience in a manufacturing environment, with emphasis on health & safety.
- Experience in identifying and abating critical risks, such as machine guarding, electrical safety, and lock out tag out program.
- Demonstrated experience in HSE management systems and process improvement. Requires understanding of state and federal regulations and standards.
- Proven track record of success in working with government agencies and preventing regulatory non-compliance.
- Strong leadership and people engagement skills; leads by example using leadership effectiveness (EI).
- Develops effective working relationships which foster integrity, trust and respect.
- Effectively communicate and share information, knowledge and expertise with all levels of the organization.
- Substantial functional experience with successful track record of results.
- Must have the ability to be resourceful and collaborate to foster continuous improvement.
- Must have the ability to inspire the team to drive productivity increases and standardization.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
- Competent in all areas of chemical management including chemical lines and clean rooms.
- Experience leading ISO14001, OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) or MSHARP desirable.
- Working knowledge of homeland security programs.
Education Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Environmental, Health/Industrial Hygiene or Safety related field required. MS a plus.
