We have an exciting opportunity for a Structural Mechanics Analysis Engineer (Human Landing System) to join our team with JETS II teammate company, Bastion Technologies, Inc.

The Structural Mechanics Analysis Engineer (Human Landing System) will:

  • Manages and guides development of structural system requirements, concepts, workforce resource loading, and schedules
  • Monitors status and recommends strategies to meet Project schedule commitments ensuring commercial providers remain within acceptable limits
  • Perform structural analysis of primary, secondary, and tertiary structures (including finite element modeling and hand calculations) to assess the commercial lander providers spacecraft
  • Review models, analysis, test plans, test reports, and any other associated hardware performance verification data sets for crewed lunar lander spacecraft and all government furnished hardware that will be manifested onto the human-rated lunar lander spacecraft
  • Identify structural anomalies and provides technical expertise to determine engineering recommendations for issue resolution
  • Support Testing and Verification activities
  • Develop plans for and execute structural testing (static and dynamic) for government furnished hardware that will be manifested onto the human-rated lunar lander spacecraft
  • Review qualification and acceptance test plans, test reports, and any other associated hardware performance verification data sets for human-rated lunar lander spacecraft
  • Review and participate in test and verification of human-rated lunar lander spacecraft structural hardware
  • Must be willing to occasionally travel to commercial lander providers and other NASA centers
  • Perform other duties as required


Requisition Qualifications:



    This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidates experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

    • Typically requires a bachelors degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
    • 3+ years of experience designing, analyzing, or building structural or mechanical systems (internship, competitive school projects, and research-based experience qualify)


    Requisition Preferences:

    • Bachelors degree in aerospace, mechanical, or structural engineering
    • 5+ years of professional experience in any, or in support of the following industries: aerospace, automotive, aviation
    • Familiarity with relevant NASA, DoD, ASME, and AIAA design & construction standards (e.g. NASA-STD-5001, NASA-STD-5017, NASA-STD-5020, JSC 65828)
    • Proficiency with the following FEA solvers: ABAQUS, ANSYS, or Nastran
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to succinctly present analytical results and recommendations

    Work Environment

    Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

    Physical Requirements

    Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90 of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5 of time).

    Attendance

    Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
