Sheet Metal Structural Assembler I - Cherokee Fuselage (Full Time)

Sheet Metal Structural Assembler I Job Code: 7312G4 Grade: G4 Pay Type: Non-Exempt EEO Classification: Operatives Assists the Supervisor in the production of high-quality aircraft parts & assemblies following Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions. Assists in meeting or exceeding planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals.

Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks:

Assemble aircraft sheet metal structural assemblies including wing spars, wing sections, fuselage sections and associated flight controls such as Horizontal Stabs, Vertical Fins, Ailerons, Flaps, Rudders, Elevators, and Trim Tabs

Drill out, countersink, dimple, ream and chamfer holes on structural assemblies using air operated and electric hand drills, auto-feed drills, drill baskets, drill guides, countersinks, dimplers, and other common sheet metal assembly tools

Trim assemblies to fit and hand lay out parts maintaining designed gap tolerances, rivet edge distance requirements and other design features where parts are not fabricated to net dimensions.

Apply sealants on pressurized fuselage sections, fuel bays and other structural joints as necessary

Operate routers and grinders in areas requiring precision dimensions such as cabin windows, structural butt joints, etc.

Install mechanical, electrical & hydraulic system parts and accessories.

Inspect and buying off own and other Teammates work using Piper inspection certifications.

Maintain the departments compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA requirements.

Interface within the department to resolve quality concerns in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Rework discrepancies as necessary. Assist with performing major and regular Material Review Board repairs, Standard repairs and modifications of aircraft due to customer directed or design changes.

Support continuous improvement efforts to improve the teams performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.

Partner with senior teammates within career path to receive and share practical knowledge for proper training to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.

Adhere and maintain all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.

Assists in meeting or exceeding planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals.

Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks:

Build complex fuselage sections, wing sections, as well as control surfaces requiring critical drilling, reaming, fitting, trimming with minimal quality defects at a high productivity rate.

Interact with Team Members & Pipers Manufacturing Support Teams as well as vendors, equipment suppliers, etc. when appropriate.

Rework major discrepancies as necessary. Performs major and regular Material Review Board repairs, Standard repairs and modifications of aircraft due to customer directed or design changes

Provide assistance when required during new product development, design, build and testing. This may periodically involve augmenting Experimental Flight Test Department in a variety of capacities in order to achieve critical program milestones.

Assist with root cause and corrective action of nonconforming material in order to reduce defects and scrap material.

Improve departmental performance by completing cost savings activities such as tooling improvements, eliminating waste, etc.

Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.

Senior Sheet Metal Structural Assembler Job Code: 7312G6 Grade: G6 Pay Type: Non-Exempt EEO Classification: Operatives Assists the Supervisor in the production of high-quality aircraft parts & assemblies following Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions. Assists in meeting or exceeding planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals.

Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks:

Leader of the area in all sheet metal assembly aspects, assists with any sheet metal assembly and leadership needs of the company

Work with other manufacturing areas to ensure production readiness for design changes. Provide assistance when required during new product development, design, build and testing.

Monitors departmental throughput and helps implement actions to attain departmental schedule requirements.

Serves as lead with the ability to guide and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, cross-train and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.

Adhere, maintain, assist and train teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.

Perform audits of areas within the department as required to maintain compliance with all FAA and Piper operational requirements. Initiate related operational process or procedural corrective action or request additional assistance from leadership or other support teams where necessary.

Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.

High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience

Related sheet metal assembly experience requirements:

o Sheet Metal Structural Assembler I: 3 years of experience preferred

o Sheet Metal Structural Assembler II: 3-5 years of experience; or *

o Senior Sheet Metal Structural Assembler: 5 years of experience; or * * Demonstrated verifiable competency through assignment of tasks and duties directly related to the position, confirming knowledge skills and abilities in lieu of experience.

Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Use of hand and power tools as required

Follow all safety procedures
