Summary/Description:

Aircraft Mechanics I must have a combination of experience to

repair engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical

maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions. Makes repairs to aircraft

and follows direction of higher graded workers. The Aircraft Mechanic I troubleshoots malfunctions

in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti- icing, pneudraulic, engines,

auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems. This mechanic repairs, replaces, and rebuilds

aircraft Propulsion, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface

controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment

such as shears, sheet metal brake, welding equipment, rivet gun, and drills. This worker reads and

interprets manufacturers and airlines maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data,

engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing

malfunctioning or damaged components. Work involves replacing or repairing worn or damaged

components, such as carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and

engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing

equipment; removing engine from aircraft, using hoist or forklift truck, disassembling and inspecting

parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairing or replacing defective engine parts and

reassembles and installs engine in aircraft. Job duties require that this mechanic adjusts, repairs, or

replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-

flight maintenance inspections, performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing

crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes. Supervises the

jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed

and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily, service engines and airframe components at line

station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition,

specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and

assemblies, and specialize in engine repair. May be required to be licensed by Federal Aviation

Administration. May require specialization in sheet-metal, electric work, avionics or other aircraft

systems related disciplines.  Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) licensing of contractor employee

technical proficiency is not required.

Essential Job Functions:

The candidate is required to maintain and service the F/A-18 systems/components as required and in accordance with applicable publications and governing instructions.  Applies technical knowledge of rated system principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skill in restoring equipment operation, evaluates performance and reliability of prototype or production mods, and recommends changes to installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.  The Aircraft Mechanic I applies technical knowledge to solve airframes system problems by interpreting manufacturer’s manuals or similar documents. Required to be qualified on and work with some ground support equipment, special calibration equipment, special tools and all related maintenance manuals, maintenance requirement cards, parts breakdown manuals, technical directives, diagrams, schematics, blueprints and drawings.  Member will work on all aircraft systems, beyond the rated Aircraft Mechanic I field of expertise the member will work as a general Aircraft Mechanic I.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must have 4 years in-rate shop experience on military aircraft or A&P license.
  • Collateral Duty Inspector Preferred.
  • Turn Operator Preferred.
  • Must have all prerequisites for CDI completed within 90 day of hire/promotion.
  • Shift work is required.
  • Must be physically able to perform all assigned duties and able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • You may be required to qualify in additional certifications such as Low Power Engine Turn-Up Operator (LPT), High Power Engine Turn-Up Operator (HPT), Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR), and or Plane Captain.
  • Must have ability to inspect and maintain all company and customer assets, including all assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), in accordance with applicable directives, and ensure that those assets are utilized in a safe, effective and efficient manner.
  • Must have ability to participate in the investigation of any injury and/or the resolution of any problems in quality or performance that may hinder production or be detrimental to the program.
  • Must participate in the training and qualification of new personnel.
  • Must promote communication to enhance and encourage employee awareness of accident prevention, quality of work, and environmental compliance.
  • Must promote positive communication with all site departments, company management, and our customers to ensure the proper execution of our contract.
  • Must participate in required daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual training and ensure that it is documented in a timely manner.
  • Complete initial attendance sheet on a daily basis, verifying your start time and proper accounting of all assigned PPE.
  • Must be cleared and maintain clearance level required.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tier 3 US Government Clearance.

Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
