Job Description SummaryAs a Preliminary Design Tools Engineer, you will work across multiple product lines and engineering teams to create the Cycle, Aerodynamic, Mechanical, Thermal, and Cost software tools used to design GE Aerospaces next generation of products. This includes collaborating with subject matter experts to develop and incorporate models of novel & derivative propulsion technologies. Primary responsibility will be support and development of engine system design tools built around NPSS. This is an opportunity to set a lasting footprint on the future of flight and sustainable aviation while learning from a broad set of experts in different fields to create engineering design software.

Job Description

Additionally, your responsibilities will include:

  • Becoming an NPSS expert and/or expanding you NPSS expertise.
  • Developing / Providing system modeling best practices, support, training, and mentoring to other engineers.
  • Supporting Multi-Disciplinary Preliminary Design System Models, Performance Models, and Adaptive Cycle Models.
  • Appling cycle modeling and turbo-machinery component modeling experience to model the engine at the correct fidelity for Tech Exploration, Tech Selection, Conceptual and Preliminary Design.
  • Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve key modeling tool issues.
  • Partner with CS / IT professionals to enable required model thruput.
  • Participate and/or lead projects using Agile and Lean concepts.
  • Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced engineers, specialists, and co-ops.
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
  • Participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and / or tasks
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and code reviews

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering position
  • Location where work needs to be performed is Cincinnati, OH or Lynn, MA
  • Must be US Citizen or Green Card Holder

Desired Characteristics

  • BS or Advanced Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Consideration of alternate / remote work arrangements will be given for highly qualified candidate
  • Experience in an engineering cycle design role or tools development role.
  • Proficient in algorithm development using several of these key Object-Oriented languages: NPSS, Python, C++.
  • Demonstrated experience in software development for analytical / design software.
  • Demonstrated analysis and problem resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of process integration, optimization, and probabilistic design.

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
