JOB TITLE: Principal Systems Engineer

About the Role
Morson Edge is recruiting on behalf of TKMS ATLAS UK for a Principal Systems Engineer to join their Systems Engineering team at Dorset Innovation Park. This role has become available as part of continued growth and increased programme demand.
The team delivers advanced maritime and defence systems, working across multidisciplinary engineering environments to develop cutting-edge underwater and naval technologies. This role plays a key part in shaping system architectures and ensuring high-quality delivery aligned with business and programme objectives.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will provide technical leadership across the systems engineering lifecycle, ensuring robust system design, integration and delivery across complex defence programmes. Reporting to the Systems Engineering Team Leader, you will work closely with Design Authorities, Engineering Managers and cross-functional teams.
* Lead system architecture development using MBSE approaches and SysML (e.g. Enterprise Architect)
* Define and maintain system-level models, interfaces and design artefacts across multiple engineering domains
* Own requirements capture, analysis and management using tools such as IBM DOORS (9.x/NG)
* Ensure requirements are traceable, verifiable and aligned to stakeholder needs
* Define and oversee Verification & Validation (V&V) strategies and activities
* Ensure compliance with relevant standards (DEF STAN, MIL STD) and internal processes
* Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to systems engineers
* Support system integration activities and resolution of complex technical issues
* Present technical solutions, trade studies and progress at internal and external design reviews
* Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including customers and suppliers
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a strong systems thinker who can lead complex engineering activities and influence technical direction across programmes.
* Degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Physics, Computing or a related discipline
* Strong experience across the systems engineering lifecycle within a complex or regulated environment (e.g. defence, aerospace, nuclear, rail)
* Proven ability to lead and collaborate within multidisciplinary engineering teams
* Strong understanding of requirements engineering and tools such as IBM DOORS
* Experience applying MBSE principles, SysML and modelling tools (e.g. Enterprise Architect)
* Ability to analyse complex technical information and communicate clearly to varied audiences
* Domain knowledge in areas such as Maritime/ Naval Systems, Unmanned Systems, Sonar, Underwater Acoustics or Systems Integration (desirable)
