JOB SUMMARY:

We are currently looking for an Lab Instrumentation Engineer who can design and build the equipment needed for the precision testing of our fire and CO detection products. In this role, you will also support the maintenance and calibration of our equipment, at both of our Colorado and Florida sites, in addition to overseeing the Florida facility and its maintenance. You will use a wide variety of skills to keep the lab operational and continuously becoming more efficient and effective. Join us today and be a part of a world leader in Fire, Safety, and Security Company. The position requires up to 25 travel to our site in Colorado Springs, CO, during the first 6-8 months, to learn and get familiar with the test equipment located at that location. Up to 2-3 weeks at a time.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support the Development, Calibration and Maintenance of our test equipment and maintenance of our Colorado and Florida lab sites.
  • Design, build and control test lab test equipment and Instruments
  • Work with the Instrumentation Engineers to incorporate Instruments in new test equipment.
  • Work with the different cross-functional groups at Kidde to understand instrumentation projects needs and timelines; including but not limited to Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, Product Test, Production, Quality and Project Management teams.
  • Communicate the progress of instrumentation projects to the Kidde team and leadership
  • Lead design reviews for test equipment development.
  • Collaborate with design team and test engineers to verify lab equipment meets testing procedures for fire and gas detection products.
  • Drive tasks closure to meet company and customer goals.
  • Review agency requirements to ensure equipment compliance to agency standards
  • Support team to become UL WTDP / DAP (witness test data program / data acceptance program).
  • Collaborate with the team and share ideas on process improvement
  • Ensure that all Kidde test equipment, at all sites, are correlated and produce similar test results.
  • Prioritize continuous improvement initiatives by focusing on the automation of test equipment and improving instrumentation projects processes.

MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering electrical, electronics, software, mechanical engineering/technology or any related fields
  • 3+ years of design experience as an Instrumentation or Controls engineer preferably as an instrumentation lab engineer.
  • Must have experience with LabView; other programming software are preferred (C++, Python..etc)
  • Ability to use hand and powered tools
  • Proficient using digital and analog testing equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
  • Excellent self-task management/prioritization and documentation skills in a R&D or testing lab environment
  • Understands how to read and interpret schematics, installation sheets, and bill of materials
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with little to no supervision
  • Interpersonal skills to work with several departments, including engineering and production
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • General understanding of engineering equipment like soldering irons, hand-held power tools
  • Expert on Microsoft Office (especially macros in Excel)
  • Must be US Citizen

The position requires up to 25 travel to our site in Colorado Springs, CO, during the first 6-8 months, to learn and get familiar with the test equipment located at that location. Up to 2-3 weeks at a time.

Preferred: -
  • Worked in the fire and gas industry with knowledge of regulatory standards such as UL268/217/521/2034/EN54
  • Knowledge of test sensors (ex. Transducers, photo-voltaic cells)
  • Experience building Radio-Frequency RF test set-ups/equipment is highly preferred
  • Proficient using digital and analog testing equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
