Our employees are not only part of history, theyre making history. Propulsion Systems is currently seeking an Engineering Technician 2, to provide calibration support at the Promontory, Utah site.
Role Description:
Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
Performs analyses and tests of raw materials, packaging materials, and/or finished products from manufacturing, to ensure quality standards and compliance to customer and regulatory requirements, and tolerance specifications for the chemical or physical properties. Performs a variety of qualitative tests or qualitative assays on samples, and maintenance and certification of test instruments and apparatus to ensure compliance. Prepares and monitors quality statistics and reports. Reviews production records for conformance to procedures. Conducts non-conformance tests of manufactured, packaged or tested product.
The Engineering Technician is responsible for performing a wide variety of chemical and physical analyses on various inert and energetic materials to assess acceptability against defined requirements. Testing ranges from traditional mechanical evaluations to advanced analytical chemistry techniques to physical property evaluations. Successful candidate will work with experienced chemists and technicians who operate analytical test equipment including chromatographic and spectroscopic instrumentation, viscometers, titrators, particle size analyzers, mechanical testing instrumentation, and various other instruments and laboratory equipment. A fast paced laboratory environment offers the flexibility to learn new skill sets of interest while developing expertise in specific lab areas.
Job Duties:
Perform burn rate, viscosity, and other chemical and physical properties testing on propellants
Fabricate specimens and perform testing on inert materials such as rubber, composites, and adhesives
Perform limited maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and calibration of instruments and processes
Maintain laboratory infrastructure including sample preparation and equipment set-ups and breakdown
Maintain neat and accurate records to company standards
Work with LIMS, Quality, and inventory databases to track material and test results
Candidate will be expected to maintain a high standard of operational discipline to support clean, safe, and efficient operations
Experience Requirements:
- Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years of related experience
- Some experience with use of scientific instrumentation and equipment is required
- Basic computer and software competencies are required
- Flexibility to occasionally work swing shift and weekends when required
Experience Preferred:
- A candidate with 2 years or more direct experience working in a laboratory environment with chemical or mechanical testing is preferable
- Experience with handling and disposal of energetic materials

Education/Certifications:
- Candidate must have an Associate’s Degree or 2 years of college and working towards a Bachelor’s degree
Salary Range: $43,200 - $72,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
