About us:

Do you like exciting technical challenges and connecting with people and different organizations? Are you interested in software development, structures testing and simulation? If your answer is yes, then this is the job for you. The successful candidate will join the Structures Nonlinear Simulation & Virtual Testing department, a team of around 30 Highly Skilled Engineers across 6 Airbus sites and will work within the multidisciplinary “Smarter Testing” team in the UK looking at the future of Structural Testing and Virtual Testing.

 

The “Smarter testing” team is a diverse, multiskilled team investigating the future of structures testing, including data rich tests with real time analysis and correlation to “Virtual Test” simulations. This team is responsible for developing the methods, software tools and nonlinear simulation approaches that will allow us to more rapidly develop and certify the next generation of aircraft.

What you will be doing:

You will be involved in a variety of different activities, requiring you to use different skills (technical, programming, project management, communication) to be successful. You can expect to be involved in:

  • Working with the Smarter Testing team to identify new Processes, Methods and Tools to allow us to gain greater value and understanding from tests and to allow us to reduce testing volume in the future;

  • Software tool development to enable our “Smarter Testing” approach using coding and scripting;

  • With our support you will acquire and hone your scripting and coding skills alongside gaining knowledge of structural testing techniques and “Virtual Testing” simulations;

  • Learn about our aircraft, their design, manufacture and in-service support;

  • Learn more about how Structures Tests are used to develop, validate and certify Aircraft;

  • Have the opportunity to work alongside Test Engineers, Simulation Engineers, Software Engineers and to be a part of a highly skilled and welcoming transnational team.

Requirements:

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Studying towards a degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent;

  • Experience in coding and/or scripting languages (Python is preferred);

  • Basic knowledge of Git and Github;

  • Strong teamwork capacities;

  • Good problem-solving skills and an innovative mindset;

  • Not afraid to propose new ideas to solve problems.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Eligibility to gain UK SC Security Clearance OR You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check).
