Join our highly skilled Technical Operations team as an Apprentice Aircraft Maintenance Engineer and contribute to the safe and efficient daily maintenance of our fleet of aircraft- Boeing 787, 737 NG, 737 MAX and De Havilland Dash 8-400 (Q400).  As part of the WestJet Technical Operations team, you will have the opportunity to grow your experience, knowledge, and skills under our internal apprenticeship training program, learning from the best in the industry.

Key deliverables: 

  • Learn and perform all work assigned following the instructions and procedures described in Maintenance Manuals and WestJet task cards 

  • Report any defect that is noted while performing maintenance 

  • Carry out maintenance, avionics or furnishings-related duties as assigned by Operations Managers, Operations Leads, or ACA’s on shift 

  • Update logbooks with accurate accounts of all maintenance tasks completed 

  • Perform work as per all Transport Canada guidelines 

  • Complete WestJet Apprentice training exercises promptly as assigned 

  • Perform work in a productive, diligent, careful, and safe manner 

  • Take care and custody of tooling and publications associated with the maintenance function 

  • Maintain a clean and safe workspace 

  

What your day could look like: 

  • Visually inspect, assess, and assist in repairs and modifications to aircraft structures, systems, and equipment 

  • Remove, install, and functionally test aircraft components 

  • Dismantle and assemble aircraft systems for repair and overhaul 

  • Remove aircraft control systems, check rigging, and re-assemble 

  • Diagnostically troubleshoot aircraft defects and carry out corrective action 

  • Complete records of work done to sustain an accurate record system 

  • Interpret blueprints and written technical instructions 

  • Complete any special projects or other tasks as required or assigned 

  • Work in compliance with all Administrative, Health & Safety policies and procedures as per legislative requirements and as outlined in Company policies 

If you are ready for your next adventure please make sure you meet the following requirements:  

  

  • Completion of a Transport Canada approved Aircraft Maintenance training program with 18-month accreditation 

  • Maintenance of a minimum 95 attendance and 70 overall grade in each course of the program  

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada (must have Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency or a valid open work permit) 

  • Ability to successfully complete and clear a criminal record check, physical assessment, audiometric test, and drug and alcohol test 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC) issued by Transport Canada   

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract with the ability to obtain and maintain an Airside Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP) 

  • Must be able to obtain a Radio License within 6 months of employment   

  • Physical ability to lift 62lbs and be able to sit, kneel, and stand for extended periods 

  • Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions including varying temperatures, working outside in the elements, confined spaces, working at heights, and noise  

  • Ability to maintain a positive fit test to wear all safety and protective equipment including but not limited to a respirator apparatus 

  • Ability to work shift work (night shifts, weekends, and holidays) including overtime when necessary 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications  

  • Willingness to learn and share knowledge and understanding with the leaders on shift
