Position Summary

The Analyst Human Factors is responsible for supporting and assisting in the development and implementation of a framework and systems to facilitate the integration of Human Factors in JetBlues Safety Management Systems. With a specialization in applied human factors, this position will administer a data-driven system, based on scientific principles and operational knowledge, which allows for the management of safety risks associated with the results of the strengths and limitations of human performance in safety-critical roles. Critical for this role is the ability to assist the Manager Human Factors and Senior Analyst Human Factors in engaging business leaders, regulatory and union stakeholders.

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

  • Assist in leading the development of a Human Factors (HF) capability that works towards managing operational safety risks and reduce human error
  • Apply human factors and psychological principles to operational airline functions
  • Assist in applying HF-specific event classification systems and processes to safety reports
  • Support post-event follow up and investigations by developing and applying HF subject matter expertise through a scientifically-driven methodology
  • Coordinate and help provide HF analysis and guidance for risk assessments, business and procedural changes, design and procurement of equipment, and operational communications to staff
  • Develop and support the delivery and maintenance of human factors-specific training content to ensure crewmembers possess the competencies appropriate with their role in JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Assist in providing safety data input to various other work streams and processes including safety review boards
  • Prepare safety reports and studies for all levels in the organization that are associated with human factors specialist topics
  • Participate in airline industry safety conferences, groups, and associations to include domestic and international travel
  • Ensure adherence to all Safety and Security regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Psychology, Human Factors, or a related field; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a combination of a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous related work experience
  • One (1) year of relevant work, intern or project experience in Human Factors, Aviation Safety or other related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of regulations and standards governing commercial aviation (International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA)) and those governing aviation safety, security, environmental, and employee health and safety
  • Working knowledge of both FAA and international aviation regulations and guidance material relating to Human Factors topics
  • Ability to learn and understand new software in detail
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Valid passport or equivalent travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

 

  • Graduate-level coursework in aviation, aviation safety, or a related field
  • One (1) year of relevant aviation industry experience, preferably in a role with demonstrated applied Human Factors expertise
  • Formal safety management training, accident investigation training, or prior management experience working within a 14 CFR Part 121 safety program
  • Experience in aviation operations (FAA certificated Pilot, Airframe & Powerplant (A&P), Dispatcher and/or work experience in an operational role at a Part 121 air carrier or aircraft original equipment manufacturer (OEM))
  • Knowledge of airline maintenance, flight operations, dispatch, cabin operations, ground operations and commercial aviation regulations desired
  • Knowledge of aviation reporting systems, safety principles, and Just Culture
  • Ability to conduct or support data and/or statistical analyses to provide meaningful and actionable insight that improve JetBlue’s safety performance
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under stress in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment

 

Crewmember Expectations:

 

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun
  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System
  • Promote JetBlue’s #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards
  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
  • The use of ChatGPT or any other automated tool during the interview process will disqualify a candidate from being considered for the position.

Compensation:

 

  • The base pay range for this position is between $50,000.00 and $89,600.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
